NASCAR recently reversed their decision to suspend driver Kurt Busch, who was indefinitely suspended after an Order of Protection from Abuse was issued against him.

We find it troubling that just a few weeks after NASCAR suspended Mr. Busch the organization, without explanation, changed its position. It is important to note that the protective order issued by the Delaware court, which served as the basis for your original decision, still remains in place today — in other words: nothing changed legally, yet NASCAR walked away from its stance against domestic violence.

Earlier today, Twitter updated their Rules on threats and abuse to prohibit users from posting “intimate photos or videos that were taken or distributed without the subject’s consent.” For many survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, the nonconsensual posting of intimate images or videos is a common and devastating tactic of abuse.

There has been a groundswell of support for ending domestic violence and sexual assault this past year. President Obama, domestic violence survivor Brooke Axtell, and pop star Katy Perry appeared at the Grammys to speak out. The first-ever anti-domestic violence and sexual assault PSA aired during the 2015 Super Bowl, which set records for viewership. Professional sports associations in America (including the NFL, MLB, and WWE) made significant first steps toward addressing domestic violence and sexual assault in the workplace.
