Equal Pay Stalled in the Senate

April 9, 2014 – Today, the Senate failed to move forward on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would have required employers to demonstrate that pay differences between men and women are based on legitimate business reasons, and not based on sex. The Act would also end pay secrecy by prohibiting retaliation against employees who disclose salary information.

“It’s 2014 in the United States of America and we can’t take even this baby step toward closing the gap in pay for women?” asked Kim Gandy, NNEDV President and CEO. “This bill would have helped many survivors of violence achieve economic security and safety. We are very disappointed in the Senate’s vote today, and hope they will act quickly to bring this important bill to a vote.“
