Take Action

NNEDV and NAESV Advocacy Days 2023

Be Heard, Take Action, End Violence

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV) co-hosted Advocacy Days this year in Washington, DC, June 6-7, 2023.*

Securing increased federal funding was our shared priority this year, and by combining forces, we strengthened our collective ask. Advocacy Days was open to domestic violence coalitions, sexual assault coalitions, and dual coalitions, and their invited guests.

*Single-issue sexual assault and dual coalitions will be invited to a June 5 event hosted by NAESV.

Registration

We welcomed the participation of as many state and territory coalition members as possible. We encouraged coalitions to invite survivors who wanted to speak from their lived experience, culturally specific service providers, and first-time participants, as well as those of you who join us each year in DC.

Registration was free for those speaking as survivors with lived experience and for culturally specific service provider staff.

Registration is now closed. Please contact Advocacy@NNEDV.org with any questions.

Accessing Trainings

Both pre-Advocacy Day pre-training sessions were conducted via Zoom. Zoom information was provided in your registration confirmation and subsequent emails. Each session was closed captioned in English. ASL and Spanish interpretation were available upon request.

Scheduling Meetings with Your Members of Congress

NNEDV and NAESV sent a template scheduling letter for Congressional meetings and explained how to set up these meetings at our pre-Advocacy Days trainings.

Travel and Hotel

Events on June 6 took place at the Yours Truly Hotel, which had a room block for coalitions to book directly with the hotel. Hotel and travel costs were not included in registration rates, and details on booking your hotel rooms within the block were provided upon completion of registration. Hotel reservations within our block must have been booked no later than May 15!

Wednesday Congressional meetings were in the U.S. House and Senate buildings on Capitol Hill. We provided maps to help you navigate. Coalitions were responsible for transportation to and from these events, and staff were available to help you navigate if needed.

Accessibility

Language interpretation (including, but not limited to, ASL and spoken languages) was provided upon request and could be requested in registration as well. Requests after May 15th could not be guaranteed.

Other mobility and learning accessibility needs could be indicated in registration as well. (For example, materials in Braille, wheelchair access, materials in large print, etc.)

Every effort was made to accommodate advance requests; on-site requests could not be guaranteed. Reasonable accommodations were provided during meeting sessions. Please contact us at Advocacy@NNEDV.org with any questions or for more assistance.

Health and Safety

We wanted to acknowledge the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our nation and survivors, and we understand it is still very much an ongoing crisis. The best way to protect oneself from COVID-19 is to wear a proper mask, complete a full vaccine schedule, and test when appropriate. This was a multi-day, in-person event where social distancing was not guaranteed and masking was not required.
