Description:
The Shelter Advocate oversees “all things shelter”, from the shelter residents to the shelter facility itself. Our shelter has 6 bedrooms and averages at 90+% occupancy, serving 100+ adults and children each year. The Shelter Advocate provides direct services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and any form of intimate partner violence who are in need of residential services. This position performs assessments and intakes, provides case management and care coordination, and offers wrap-around support for shelter residents. The Shelter Advocate collaborates with other direct services staff, survivors, and community partners as a key link in systems of care and support. This is a non-entry-level position. This is a direct services position that is key in fulfilling the mission of a dynamic and effective organization. Applicants will be requested to engage in a background check process prior to hiring.

Direct Service: Serve as a key member of the Abbie Shelter’s direct services team. Provide trauma-informed, structured, and compassionate services to all residential survivors, focusing on the core mission of safety, independence, and empowerment. A high level of coordination and collaboration is required across the direct service team. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

- Crisis intervention
- Assessment
- Intake
- Case management
- Care coordination
- Conflict resolution and mediation
- Community advocacy
- Transportation
- Providing wraparound services for survivors
