NNEDV Statement on the Deadly Buffalo Shooting

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) condemns the racist mass shooting that took place in Buffalo, New York, over the weekend. We are devastated by this hateful targeting and killing of Black people, rooted in white supremacist violence, and we mourn for the senseless loss of life. We send our condolences to the families and communities of those who were murdered and send our thoughts for comfort to the community and to all those who have been physically and emotionally wounded by this violence.

“This shooting marks yet another grim reminder of the ways in which hate and violence against Black communities in America continue. The systems of white supremacy that motivated the Buffalo shooter are the same systems that continue to harm and oppress Black people across the country, every single day. These acts are intended to terrorize communities and we stand in grief and solidarity with them,” said Deborah J. Vagins, NNEDV President and CEO.

“We know that all systemic violence is connected, and our work to end domestic violence cannot be separated from broader movements to end the violence of white supremacy and racism. NNEDV is committed to working within and across these movements, and to uplifting the voices of those most marginalized, until everyone can live safely and without fear,” said Vagins.
