NNEDV celebrates Pride Month 2015
June 12, 2015
The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) is proud to support LGBT individuals throughout the year, and especially during this year’s Pride month. [1] This movement was started with many lesbian advocates and supporters, ensuring that the effort to fight domestic abuse will always be entwined with the fight against LGBT discrimination. The domestic violence movement has been, and will always be, aligned with the LGBT movement. At its core, the movement to end domestic violence is anti-oppression work, and NNEDV continues to embrace this by fighting sexism, racism, homophobia, and all other forms of oppression.
“There are no exceptions when it comes to the basic right to have safety, equal rights, and freedom from discrimination,” said Kim Gandy, NNEDV President and CEO.
NNEDV is pleased to help maintain the protections for LGBT individuals, the acknowledgement that domestic violence occurs in same-sex relationships, and the recognition that LGBT individuals can be victims of sexual assault. We sustain this protection through our work with the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the intersection between HIV/AIDS and domestic violence, and our other projects.
There are no exceptions when it comes to the basic right to have safety, equal rights, and freedom from discrimination.
This year also marks our 25th anniversary! We are dedicated to changing our social, political, and economic environment to create a world where violence against anyone – no matter their sex, race, ethnicity, sexuality, or other identity – no longer exists. Inclusivity remains one of our priorities in the national campaign to end domestic violence.
Happy Pride Month!
