Safety Net Project Highlights Importance of Protecting Online Safety through Twitter

January 15, 2014

Online safety is a major concern for many survivors of domestic and sexual violence and stalking. We live in a data-driven world where, even if we aren’t sharing our secrets, someone else might be.

For some survivors, the sharing of their personally identifying information, either by themselves or others, can be dangerous.

Particularly for victims of stalking, online data can be a major source of information to assist stalkers in stalking, monitoring, and harassing their victims. Many survivors can’t control what is shared about them online, but there are some things they can do to enhance their privacy.

Check out our Safety Net Project’s recent Twitter chat, hosted by @DataPrivacyDay, on online safety tips for survivors, which includes additional resources and information.
