NNEDV Condemns Texas and Maine ICE Shootings

Washington, DC – The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) unequivocally condemns the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) killings of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo last week in Texas, Joan Sebastian Guerrero just yesterday in Maine, and at least nine other people who have been fatally shot by immigration officials in the past two years.

No family should have to endure this kind of unimaginable loss. No community should have to accept this ongoing pattern of state-sponsored violence. NNEDV is in solidarity with our immigration partners and with communities across the country in mourning these deaths and demanding change.

“Our work to create a better world for survivors of abuse is deeply interwoven with broader anti-violence movements, including those supporting safety and justice for immigrants,” said Tonia Moultry-Pace, NNEDV Interim President & CEO. “None of us can truly be safe until our immigrant neighbors, friends, and family members are safe, too.”

NNEDV calls on Congress and the Administration to stop pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into an immigration enforcement system that continues to inflict violence and harm. Instead, meaningful action – including demands shared by our partners at the Alliance for Immigrant Survivors – must be taken to end this violence and ensure every person is treated with the dignity and humanity they deserve.
