NNEDV Applauds GNWS’ Launch of Lila.Help: A Global Directory of Support Services
April 6, 2022
The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) is excited to announce that our partners at the Global Network of Women’s Shelters (GNWS) have launched Lila.Help, a global directory of support services for people experiencing domestic and sexual violence.
“NNEDV congratulates the GNWS on reaching this incredible milestone. The launch of Lila.Help marks a key step toward ensuring survivors of domestic and sexual violence around the world are connected to help, including having NNEDV’s resources,” said Deborah J. Vagins, NNEDV President and CEO. “As a founding member of the GNWS, NNEDV has worked with the GNWS to bring together advocates from across the globe. Since Lila.Help was conceptualized in 2019, NNEDV has partnered in its development and worked closely with other regional and national networks to bring Lila.Help to fruition.”
Advocates around the world have been discussing the need for a vetted global directory for many years and the pandemic has made the need for online resources even more clear. As Ashley Slye, NNEDV’s Deputy Director of the Positively Safe program, says: “I have been working for a long time with both NNEDV and the GNWS, but when one of my friends came to me after experiencing sexual violence in Asia, I was unsure where to send her. In that moment I knew there was a need for a global directory highlighting vetted domestic violence and sexual assault helplines and crisis centers. With the development of Lila.Help, there is now a comprehensive, multi-national resource I feel comfortable sending my friends and family to if they need to reach help.”
