NNEDV Reacts to Senate Failure of the Paycheck Fairness Act

Today, the Senate failed to consider the Paycheck Fairness Act—a bill that would strengthen and amend the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to give workers stronger enforcement tools and remedies to help close, for once and for all, the pay gap between men and women.

“NNEDV is deeply disappointed that the Paycheck Fairness Act has failed to advance in the Senate, despite overwhelming public support for equal pay. Closing the wage gap would be life-changing for millions of women, including survivors of domestic violence whose safety depends on their economic stability,” said Deborah J. Vagins, President and CEO of the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV). “Women can no longer wait for equal pay, especially as we face the current economic downturn. Now that the Senate has once again failed to even consider the Paycheck Fairness Act on its merits, we must wait even longer. The status quo is unacceptable.”
