Having, building, and using a support system is a critical element of safety planning for victims and survivors of domestic violence. These networks can involve friends, service providers, and family. But considering relatives as a support system can be complex, whether the survivor is isolated due to the abuse or if they have experienced harm within their family. Regardless, we as providers need to consider if we understand the family dynamics at play. To gain some perspective, we invite you to our upcoming webinars related to addressing family dynamics:

While each family is different, we may find some common practices and expectations, like multigenerational homes where children are raised with their grandparents in the home. In our training, we will touch on characteristics of familial culture that can inform how to better support clients and think about how family comes into play for them.

After looking at how families function as a unit, we then move our focus to children. In the second webinar in this series, we will challenge myths around how children navigate domestic violence and what we can do to develop safer environments for them, whether they are our clients or the children of our clients.

We hope that you can join us for our series on May 1 and June 5. This webinar is part of the WomensLaw REACH project, a partnership between the National Network to End Domestic Violence and Esperanza United. To learn more about this collaboration, check out the REACH Project hub.
