Safety Net Project
Technology helps victims and their children successfully flee violent batterers, stalkers and rapists. But what millions don't realize is the dangerous and potentially lethal sides of various technologies in the hands of abusers and perpetrators. NNEDV's Safety Net: Safe & Strategic Technology Project addresses how technology impacts the safety, privacy, accessibility, and civil rights of victims by:
- Educating victims, their advocates and the general public on ways to use technology strategically to help find safety and escape domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, stalking and abuse;
- We have two dozen handouts, many in multiple languages at: Technology Safety Resources
- Training law enforcement, social services, coordinated community response teams and others how to hold perpetrators accountable for misusing technology to impersonate, harass, stalk, surveil, and threaten.
- Advocating for strong local, state, national and international policies and practices that ensure the safety, privacy and civil rights of all victims and survivors.
NNEDV's Safety Net Project addresses how technology can be harnessed successfully to do effective outreach, intervention, and violence prevention work.
Since 2002, the Safety Net Project has trained more than 50,000 advocates, police, prosecutors and others. Read more

For the first time ever, the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s (NNEDV) Safety Net project is opening up their annual national technology conference to victim advocates, service providers, attorneys, law enforcement, community corrections, and other professionals working with survivors on technology safety issues.
Date: July 29-31, 2013
Location: San Jose, CA
This unique training opportunity will focus on the various complex issues and concerns that come from the intersection of technology and domestic & sexual violence, stalking, and trafficking. Participants will be given the information and tools needed to respond to technology misuse, to enhance services for survivors of violence, and hold offenders accountable.

The registration fee includes access to all training sessions, receptions, and related events, as well as continental breakfast, lunch, and morning and afternoon breaks (does not include dinner).

OVW has approved some grantees to use their grant funds to attend this conference.
Grantees from OVW’s Campus, Legal Assistance for Victims, Supervised, Transitional Housing and the Youth grant programs have been conditionally approved to attend this conference, which means that they are required to contact their OVW program specialist to get approval specific to their award and to ensure that a Grant Adjustment Notice (GAN) is issued. A GAN must be completed by these grantees before using any funds related to attending this conference.
Grantees from Court Training and Improvements may send up to 2 participants and spend no more than $3,500 and Rural Program may send up to 4 participants (spending level not specified). These grantees DO NOT have to contact their program manager for prior approval. Grantees who are not required to get prior approval to attend this conference should be advised to place a “memo to the file” in their grant records indicating the conference approval code and their adherence to the criteria outlined above.
CEU credits will be offered through the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, and we are in the process of applying for MCLEs.

NNEDV launched its Technology & Confidentiality Resources Toolkit to assist domestic violence, dating abuse, sexual violence and stalking victim service organizations. The unique and innovative toolkit provides victim service organizations with specific and useful resources on confidentiality and privacy.

NNEDV announced that it is joining Facebook’s Safety Advisory Board, becoming one of five organizations from North America and Europe to be a part of the group. NNEDV’s Safety Net Technology Project experts have worked with Facebook consistently to represent the needs of victims of domestic violence, cyber-stalking and teen dating violence.
