Domestic Violence Shelters and Survivors Receive Nearly 80,000 KN95 Masks to Protect Against COVID-19

Allstate and NNEDV help survivors and advocates remain safe during the pandemic.

WASHINGTON – July 8, 2020

Survivors of domestic violence and their advocates across the country recently received nearly 80,000 KN95 masks thanks to The Allstate Foundation Allstateand the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV).

Allstate donated the masks, which are frequently used by their Claims employees when responding to a catastrophe. NNEDV will distribute these masks to survivors of domestic violence and advocates working in local programs and shelters across the country. The donation brings preventative relief to domestic violence organizations that have been working tirelessly to provide personal protective equipment to advocates and survivors.

“As the pandemic continues to strain resources, partners like Allstate are helping advocates and survivors access the protective gear that has been so hard to come by at this time, while the critical work to end domestic violence must continue,” said Deborah J. Vagins, NNEDV President and CEO. “Allstate and The Allstate Foundation have proven again and again their commitment to supporting the domestic violence field, even as we face a world health crisis.”

More than 1,300 shelters across the country will benefit from this donation, allowing frontline advocates and counselors to continue providing care to survivors and their children.

“The pandemic is causing added difficulty in a very unique time, but people turn to us when things are uncertain,” said Eric Brandt, Allstate chief claims officer. “Creating long-lasting impact is part of who we are and what we do, especially when it comes to accelerating change for society’s most vulnerable.”

The Allstate Foundation and NNEDV have partnered for more than 15 years, including through a recent $550,000 small grants initiative that provided flexible, emergency grants to more than 120 local domestic violence organizations to cover emergency costs related to COVID-19.
