State Coalition Technical Assistance
The role of state domestic violence coalitions continues to be critical to coordinating statewide violence against women efforts, addressing systemic barriers facing battered women and their children and strengthening services available to victims of domestic violence.
As recognition about the need for coordinated services to address systemic barriers increases, state coalitions are also increasingly called upon to provide critical leadership and coordination at the state level. This increased demand requires access for state coalitions to ongoing technical assistance regarding best practices on the national level.
The National Network to End Domestic Violence Fund (NNEDV Fund) currently serves as the primary provider of technical assistance to state domestic violence coalitions. Since its inception in 1995, the function of NNEDV Fund has been to enhance the capacity of state domestic violence coalitions and the roles they play with member domestic violence programs and allied organizations in their states.
Through the State Coalition Technical Assistance Program, NNEDV Fund offers a variety of technical assistance opportunities including:
- Regional Meetings to reduce isolation and share strategies for addressing regional specific issues six NNEDV regions;
- Topical and National Meetings to identify and share best practices, provide issue specific training and provide networking opportunities;
- Peer networking that provides opportunities for coalitions to receive onsite technical assistance from sister coalitions in their area of expertise;
- In 2008-2009, the State Coalition Technical Assistance Project will partner with the National Sexual Assault Resource Sharing Project to provide an orientation meeting for incoming directors of state domestic violence, sexual assault, and dual domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions;
- NNEDV staff are available to provide onsite technical assistance to state coalitions in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to, board development, diversity/women of color leadership training and federal compliance issues; and
- The State Coalition Technical Assistance Program also publishes an annual directory of coalition staff and programming from across the country.
