On Thursday January 29th, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 , making it the first bill to become law in his Administration. The law will make it easier for women to sue their employers for wage discrimination.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2009, the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics released its new report, Stalking Victimization in the United States. The study found that during a 12-month period, an estimated 3.4 million people (age 18 or older) were victims of stalking.
