NNEDV was pleased to welcome Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the Dr. Phil show, when he appeared before the U.S Senate Judiciary Committee to testify in support of the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). VAWA creates and supports comprehensive, effective, and cost-saving responses to the crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

NNEDV is joining the Office of Women's Health within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in celebrating National Women's Health Week. The week is observed from Mother's Day to May 14.  National Women's Health Week is a nationwide initiative that calls attention to the importance of women's health. The theme for National Women's Health Week is "It's Your Time," encouraging women to take action to live healthier lives.

NNEDV today recognized April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Many victims of domestic violence, teen dating abuse and stalking are also the victims of rape and sexual assault.  This year’s theme, “It’s Time…to Get Involved,” encourages bystanders or witnesses to take action to end sexual violence in their communities.
