NNEDV Urges Congress to Pass an Economic Recovery Package that Provides Jobs for Victim Advocates
"The current economic crisis is the worst since the Great Depression. With towering unemployment rates, many victim service advocates have lost their jobs even as demand for domestic violence support services rises. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, under consideration in the Senate, provides essential funding to hire and train more victim service advocates as well as build safe and affordable housing. These are vital provisions that not only provide long-term, sustainable growth to the economy through job creation but also encourage economic self-sufficiency for domestic violence victims. Congress must act swiftly to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act without harmful amendments that would cut essential jobs for victim advocates, ultimately hurting domestic violence victims. Now is not the time to engage in a partisan ping pong match, but rather the time to provide a safety net to all Americans in need."
