We asked you to urge Congress to pass an Omnibus spending bill that would have included key increases for domestic and sexual violence programs. Unfortunately, Congress instead passed a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) which will fund all federal government programs at current funding levels until March 2011.  This includes the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).

Your advocacy was not in vain!  Your Members of Congress heard you and know that their constituents care about programs that help victims of domestic and sexual violence.  As the budget process becomes more and more contentious, your voices matter more than ever.

  • Next Steps

When the temporary funding measure expires in March, all federal programs will be considered for cuts.  We will need to build upon our recent action and redouble our efforts to secure increased funding for lifesaving programs in the new year. Watch this space for an alert urging you to call your Members of Congress to protect funding for programs that prevent and end domestic and sexual violence.

Thank you for all that you do!
