Economic Justice Specialist

Sandra joined the NNEDV staff in July 2009. She is responsible for providing technical assistance to coalition members on NNEDV economic justice and financial empowerment programs that can help survivors of domestic violence improve their personal finance skills. Before joining NNEDV, Sandra served as Deputy Director, and later as Acting Director for the Office of International Women’s Issues at the U.S. Department of State, where she oversaw policy coordination for international women’s issues and development of public diplomacy initiatives. She also served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Treasurer, and earlier as Director of Outreach for the Office of Financial Education. While at Treasury, she provided counsel on financial literacy and currency education initiatives, as well as public policy issues. As a department spokesperson for national campaigns such as Treasury’s GoDirect campaign, Sandra increased outreach to the Latino community. She also served as an interagency liaison, coordinating initiatives of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission. Additionally, she served as a Consumer Education Specialist and Spanish-language spokesperson at the Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Consumer and Business Education, working on campaigns such as The National Do Not Call List and a national I.D. Theft public education campaign. She earned a J.D. and an Institute for Communications Law Studies Certificate from The Columbus School of Law, at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (2000); and earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications (1997) and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (1996) from the California Polytechnic University at Pomona.
