Cynthia Fraser
Technology Safety Specialist
Cynthia Fraser is a Technology Safety Specialist for the Safety Net Project. Through training, technical assistance, and policy advocacy, she addresses how technology impacts survivors of stalking, domestic and sexual violence. She has 18 years experience working to end violence in the US and Canada at local hotline, shelter, court, and victim advocacy organizations as well as nationally at organizations such as the US Institute for Women's Policy Research. At the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence from 1997-2003, her work focused on creating the National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women and building the capacity of anti-violence agencies to use technology effectively for violence prevention, intervention and education. She's trained multidisciplinary groups, businesses, attorneys, first responders, communities and classrooms on a wide range of topics relevant to victims since 1993. She's sat on various national advisory committees, coauthored publications, and holds degrees in Political Science and Psychology from University of Toronto. Cynthia uses her lengthy experience with database, surveillance, communication, and assistive technologies to promote policy and practice that prioritizes safety, accessibility, and privacy rights for all survivors of violence. When we finally end all violence and oppression, she plans to sit atop a mountain and ponder if it's inadvisable to resurrect brief youthful stints as a fly-bitten tree planter and a Suzuki violin teacher.
